Frequently Asked Questions

Installation

Please note you require Administrator privileges in order to install all Bransoft Products.

Q1.
When I have finished the installation nothing happens, what do I do?
A1.
The Installation will have created a Program Group called Bransoft which will appear in your Start Menu - All Programs (Windows XP) or Programs (WIndows 2000) . Within the BRANSOFT Program Group click on the appropriate shortcut to launch the program.

Q2.
When I run the Workstation Setup routine it finishes successfully but nothing has happened, why is this?
A2.
This is because you do not have Administrator privileges, please contact your network administrator. Once installed the product will work without Administrator privileges as long as you have read/write access to the program directory.

Using our Programs

Q1.
When I click on the program shortcut nothing happens, what should I do?
A1.
The first time you run our products they take a little longer to start, this is because it creates a user profile and will ask for your Name. You will find our products open much quicker after the first time however it will still depend on the speed of your network and computer. Please contact us for advice if you feel it is taking too long.

Q2.
What screen resolution do you recommend?
A2.
All our products have been designed to run using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768. Our programs will work fine if you are using a higher screen resolution. If you are using a screen resolution of 800 x 600 (or lower) the program will still work but you will find you need to use the scroll bars to see the areas of the screen that are not visible. If you are using a higher screen resolution you will find there are white areas around the edge of the screen, this will not cause any problems.

Q3.
When I launch a Bransoft program I get a message about my Screen Resolution, what should I do?
A3.
If you are not using a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 you will see a message, if you are happy to use your current screen resolution click Ignore to the message so it doesn't appear again. Please note this will ignore the message for anyone using the program if you are running the program over a network. If you are happy to change your screen resolution to 1024 x 768 we recommend you do so. To change your screen resolution go to the Display Control Panel and click on the Settings tab, the screen resolution can be changed by sliding the bar left or right.

Q4.
When I a Bransoft program I get a message about Backing Up, what do I need to do?
A4.
We strongly recommend backing up our programs as it will contain data that can't easily be remembered should you encounter a hardware failure or theft. Please click here to see more detailed information about Backing Up.

Q5.
How do I change the name I entered when I first ran my Bransoft program?
A5.
This can only be done by going into the Registry Editor, if you are not familiar with the consequences of editing the System Registry please seek further support or contact use by phone. Open the Registry Editor by going to Start - Run, type in 'Regedit' and click 'OK'. Expand the following key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER \ Software \ FileMaker \ <<PROGRAM NAME>> \ 8.5 \ Preferences and double click on 'User Name' from the right hand side, enter a new name, click 'OK' and close down the Registry Editor.

Q6. Why can't I run more than one Bransoft program at a time?
A6.
Because all Bransoft products are developed using the same database engine and access is restricted to just one user at a time for security this does also mean only one product can be opened at the same time. If this is causing extensive difficulties please contact us to let us know and to discuss your specific requirements further.
